• At the 96th annual meeting of the American Academy of Optometry in Chicago, Dr. Jenna Nelson was awarded fellowship in the academy. Professionals who become academy fellows must complete a rigorous candidacy process, submitting extensive written work and passing an oral examination. A panel of optometrists and vision scientists must approve both the written work and oral examinations. Fewer than 10 percent of practicing optometrists are academy fellows. Nelson is accepting new patients at Alex Vision Source in Alexandria.
• Several long-time employees were promoted at American Diversity, a woman-owned business enterprise in Glenwood that provides product and service solutions to other businesses. Erica VanBeck has been promoted to president after serving as vice president. Lori Wrolson has been promoted from accountant to director of accounting. Faye Bosek has been promoted to director of eCommerce after working on the eCommerce team and as a trainer. American Diversity's founder, Diane Zavadil, will remain as CEO and board chairwoman.
• A full-service spa has opened in Alexandria. Jenna Lee Spa provides manicures, pedicure, facials, chemical peels, waxing and body treatments. Owner Jenna Lee said the new business, at 1307 St. Hwy 29 N., will provide a friendly, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.
