Hundreds attend first Ripple festival
A few hundred people attended a day-long festival for women Saturday at City Park in Alexandria that was set to conclude Saturday evening with a moon ceremony.
The women's wellness event was the first organized by Ripple, a nonprofit founded by business consultant Shannon Berns.
She estimated Saturday afternoon that close to 400 people had attended throughout the day.
The festival, which was put together by Du Nord Consulting and Definitive Woman magazine, opened with what was billed as a welcoming ceremony of inclusion and connection. Several hour-long sessions were offered, ranging from classes on fitness, self-defense, yoga, meditation and pilates, activities such as canoeing, painting, journaling, acupuncture and hula hooping, and a food demonstration from Elden's Fresh Foods, one of several sponsors.
A portion of the proceeds will go to scholarships for women, and will be announced at a Ripple gala in 2019.
