Golf tournament fundraiser planned for Hlinsky family

We Got Your Back, a local support group for law enforcement and emergency personnel, is hosting a golf tournament fundraiser for the family of Steven "Beaver" Hlinsky.

Hlinsky, a Forada firefighter and first responder for 28 years, died May 13, eight days after an assault in Forada.

The 1430 Beaver Cup golf tournament and silent auction will take place on Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Geneva Golf Course in Alexandria. Registration is from 1 to 2:15 p.m., with a shotgun start at 2:30 p.m. Registration is due by Saturday, Aug. 4. To register, visit the "1430 Beaver Cup" page on the We Got Your Back website, www.wegotyourbackusa.org/1430-beaver-cup/.

The silent auction will start at 5:30 p.m. with a meal set to begin at 6 p.m. Organizers noted that this is a community event and people are welcome to join in the meal even if they don't want to golf. A free-will offering will be accepted.

The purpose of the event, according to organizers, is to honor the memory of Hlinsky and help his two children, Dominic and Abby, with expenses they have incurred, including funeral costs and medical bills.
