Simulcast focuses on Apostle Paul
St. Luke's Church of Garfield will host a simulcast about the Apostle Paul in connection with the soon-to-be-released film, "Paul, Apostle of Christ."
The simulcast features a theological discussion with several speakers from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, and one from the Moody Bible Institute. Also speaking is Jim Caviezel, who plays Luke in the film, and is perhaps best known for his 2004 role as Jesus in "The Passion of the Christ."
The simulcast will show at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at the church, 201 Ida St. E. in Garfield. There is no charge.
Release date for the film is Friday, March 23. Aimed at evangelical Christians, it tells the story of Luke's visits to Paul during Paul's imprisonment in Rome.
The Unity Foundation invites everyone to attend the monthly Faith @ Work Lunch from noon-1 p.m. Friday, March 16 at the Broadway Ballroom, 115 30th Ave. E. in Alexandria. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at the Common Ground Coffee House, Mustard Seed Market or at the door.
This month's talk is, "In Our Midst: Hidden Warriors and their Families," by Chaplain Buddy Winn, a lieutenant colonel in the Minnesota Army National Guard. As Minnesotans continue to deploy to war, Winn will discuss the experiences of deployed service members and their families, especially those from the Reserve Components, and how to best minister to them.
Winn served in the National Guard before answering the call to ministry. He joined the Army Chaplain Corps in November 2006.
Common Ground Coffee House at 516 Hawthorne St. in Alexandria will host a testimonial night from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, March 16.
Greg Odell will lead this evening of testimonies, prayer and old-fashioned hymns. What has God done for you lately? What story can you share so that others can help understand the reality of God? How did you become a Christian? Have you gone through any sickness or know someone for whom God has answered a prayer? Individuals have up to 20 minutes to share their story. Fish fry in Urbank
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Urbank will have a fish fry from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, March 16 the wheelchair-accessible parish center. The meal includes breaded fish, baked potato, beans, coleslaw, buns, bars and a beverage. Everyone is welcome.
Seeing Christ in Passover
With Good Friday and Passover approaching, St. Luke's Church of Garfield will host a missionary from Chosen People Ministries to discuss Old Testament insights into Holy Communion.
Trevor Rubenstein, a Jew who converted to Christianity, will present the "Messiah in the Passover Seder" at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 27 at St. Luke's, 201 Ida St. E. in Garfield. Passover Seder is a Jewish feast that celebrates the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt.
Seating is limited, and the church advises those interested in attending to register by Tuesday, March 20 by calling 320-834-2285. A free will offering will be collected.
Pizza and movie night in Kensington
Kensington Covenant Church will show the film "Amazing Grace: The William Wilberforce Story" during a pizza and movie night at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at 11 Kensington Ave. S. in Kensington.
Wilberforce was an English politician born in 1759 who became an evangelical Christian and played a key role in ending the slave trade in Great Britain.
