Cross country: Alexandria to host top teams for Lions Meet of Champions

Nearly 1,500 runners will take to the starting line at the 46th annual Lions Cross Country Meet of Champions at the Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center in Alexandria this Saturday.

The first race starts with boys and girls 6th-graders at 10:10 a.m. and wraps up with the varsity boys race at 1:05 p.m. An awards ceremony will follow at 1:35 p.m. The boys and girls varsity race will each feature top-10 ranked teams in state.

Schools participating in the meet are: Alexandria, Becker, Buffalo (Class AA eighth-ranked boys), Chanhassen, Chaska, Marshall (AA 10th-ranked girls), Minnetonka (AA 11th-ranked boys), Monticello, Mounds View (AA third-ranked boys), Osakis, Red Wing (AA sixth-ranked boys), Roseville, Sartell, Sioux Falls Washington, St. Cloud Apollo, St. Paul Highland Park (AA seventh-ranked boys), St. Thomas Academy, Stillwater (AA fourth-ranked boys, sixth-ranked girls), White Bear Lake (AA 12th-ranked girls), Willmar (AA seventh-ranked girls) and Windom.

11:15 - Girls junior varsity race

11:55 - Boys junior varsity race

1:05 - Boys varsity race

1:35 - Awards ceremony
