Locals compete in MGA Mixed Amateur Championship
The Minnesota Golf Association offers many of the top amateur players in the state a format to play against other top talent, and plenty of area golfers take advantage of that.
That was on full display in the MGA Mixed Amateur Team Championship in Forest Lake July 2-3. Minnewaska was well represented in the tournament as former Laker standouts Ashlyn Guggisberg and Esten Stensrud joined up to finish 12th in the tournament with a two-day total of 146, finishing at two-over par. Madi McGinty and Isaac Burgess of the Minnewaska Golf Club shot a 14-over 158, while Alexandria's Lauren Stockmoe and Ben Dirck of the Geneva Golf Club shot a 167 over two days to finish 21st in the field.
Osakis' Alayna Eldred also joined forces with multiple-time Resorters Tournament champion Daryl Schomer of the Wapicada Golf Club. They finished 14th after shooting 76, 75 for a 7-over par 151. Another Resorters Tournament regular, Betsy Aldrich, joined Mark Aldrich to shoot even par at 144.
The brother-sister duo of Emily and Andrew Israelson of The Vintage at Staples won the mixed amateur championship by shooting a 10-under 134. They shot 66 on day one and 68 in round two to beat Trent Peterson and Olivia Herrick by four strokes.
