Owen's first deer with a bow
Twelve-year-old Owen Anderson got a new bow this past June and had been practicing quite a bit over the summer in anticipation of this deer season.
On Sept. 29, that practice paid off. Owen was hunting in his grandparents' woods near Lake Mary on his first-ever bow hunt when a doe and two fawns came his way. The doe never got close enough for a shot, but a button buck came to within 20 yards feeding on acorns next to a bean field. Owen took the shot.
"After he shot, we could tell he hit it," his dad, Bryan, said.
The Andersons decided not to push the deer too soon.
"We let it be while we attended sixth-grade football," Bryan said.
When they returned, Owen's twin brother, Otto, was there to help track the deer. It took a while, but an excited Owen found his first deer with a bow.
