Volleyball: Osakis wins its sixth straight

Kylie Anderson

The Osakis volleyball team kept cruising on Tuesday night as the Silverstreaks won their sixth straight match and second straight by a 3-2 score after downing Browerville-Eagle Valley.

The Tigers (9-9, 6-2 Prairie) were another good test in the Prairie Conference for Osakis (10-8, 6-2 Prairie). Things were back and forth all night as B-EV took the first set, 25-19, before the Silverstreaks rattled off 25-18 and 25-16 wins. The Tigers forced a fifth set with a 25-21 win in the fourth, but Osakis put things away with a 15-11 clincher.

“It's fun to see these girls compete and have fun doing it,” Osakis head coach Kirsten Wessel said. “They did a nice job of making adjustments and playing smart volleyball. The blocking improved greatly throughout the match, as did the defensive coverage. We had quite a few people come into the match to fulfill different roles, and they did a great job.”

Wessel said the Silverstreaks settled in to being the aggressors in the second set.

“We made some good defensive adjustments,” Wessel said. “We passed better on our serve receive after the first set. That helps our setter out quite a bit.”

Senior setter Elli Clasemann finished with 38 assists and 16 digs. She spread the ball out to Maddie Johanson (15 kills), Kylie Anderson (12 kills), Laynee Hartshorn (10 kills) and Jacey Larson (9 kills). Tianna Stanek also added five kills and a team-high 22 digs.

A busy week for the Silverstreaks continues on Thursday as they go to Swanville at 7:30 p.m. Osakis will then wrap up the week by playing in the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Tournament  on Saturday at 9 a.m.
