Volleyball: Sauk edges Alex in five

Mya Lesnar

The Alexandria volleyball team came up a few points short in a Central Lakes Conference clash at Sauk Rapids-Rice on Tuesday.

The Cardinals (9-10, 6-3 CLC) took a 2-1 lead at one point after dropping a 25-23 first set and winning 25-14 and 25-17 in the second and third. The Storm (10-4, 6-3 CLC) bounced back and finished off the match with 25-16 and 15-11 wins in the fourth and fifth.

“(It was a) hard-fought match,” Alexandria head coach Mary Byrne said. “We do have a couple players who are sick. I think we just didn't have enough energy to finish, but the team played very hard.”

Mya Lesnar continued to lead the Cardinals’ defense at the net as she had seven blocks and three aces. Kendra Hardy had 15 kills, and Mia McGrane and Mackenzie Duwenhoegger each added 11 kills. Erika Roderick set them up with 40 assists, while also chipping in three aces from the serving line.
