Volleyball: Chargers dominate Rothsay for an eighth-straight win
The Brandon-Evansville volleyball team’s run of impressive play continued on Thursday night as the Chargers won their eighth straight in a 3-0 sweep of Rothsay.
The Tigers (4-14-1, 1-6 Little Eight Conference) didn’t stand much of a chance as the Chargers (12-4, 8-0 LEC) dominated from the get-go, winning 25-9, 25-19 and 25-12.
“Tonight’s match was all about offensive and defensive balance,” B-E head coach Kelly Olson said. “We wanted to spread the ball out and keep them guessing. We wanted to keep our defensive rotations evenly spread to cover the tips. Our players did a great job of those two things all night.”
Olson felt the Chargers got a little flat in the second set before rebounding. It all came back to that balance on both sides of the ball.
“Those two keys led to a side percentage of 68 percent, and a 52 percent first-serve side out,” Olson said. “We kept the ball in our hands most of the night, and we did a great job of moving forward.”
Bailey Schaefer had four aces and nine kills, while Korrie Randt added four ace serves, as well. Madison Quinn spread the ball around with 30 assists. Mikenna Pattrin had six kills, and Brittany Korkowski added four.
The Chargers will put their eight-match winning streak on the line against the second best team in the Little Eight Conference right now when Underwood (14-8, 7-1) comes to Evansville on Tuesday night at 7:30. The Rockets’ only loss in LEC play is against the Chargers when the two teams met on Sept. 13.
