Volleyball: Osakis knocks off Upsala for a ninth straight win

Elli Clasemann

The Osakis volleyball team made it nine wins in a row on Tuesday night as the Silverstreaks (13-8, 8-2 Prairie) took care of a 3-16 Upsala team in four sets.

Osakis controlled the first set, 25-14, but had to fend of the Cardinals in a 26-24 win in the second. Upsala won by that same score in the third, but the Silverstreaks put the match away with a 25-13 win in the fourth.

“We started out somewhat strong and gained momentum throughout game one,” Osakis head coach Kirsten Wessel said. “In game two, we had a little bit of hesitation on defense, which gave Upsala the momentum. Game three was almost identical to game two, but in game four, we started clicking. Our passing got much better in that game.”

It was Senior Night for the Silverstreaks as Megan Peikert, Elli Clasemann, Liz Drevlow, Tianna Stanek, Kylie Anderson, Brooke Pfeffer and managers Aubrey Koep and Morgan Herzog were all honored.

“We, as coaches, are very proud of the young ladies that they have become,” Wessel said. “They have proven to be good role models and good leaders for our upcoming teams.”

That group of seniors has led a resurgent effort for Osakis this year after being 2-7 at one point this fall. Stanek had a team-high 11 kills against Upsala, while Clasemann continues to do a little bit of everything with two aces, three kills, 29 assists and 15 digs. Peikert had 24 digs and Jacey Larson added seven kills.

The Silverstreaks go to Paynesville on Oct. 16 for the last regular-season dual ahead of a tournament in Sartell on Oct. 18.

Then it’s tournament time, where Osakis has positioned itself to get the second seed in the Section 5A-South through the Minnesota-scores.net rankings. Those seedings will become final on Oct. 22.
